First ever Road Race

I embarked on my first ever road race, running in a 2 mile along the Columbia River in Richland. Sara followed me competing in a ten mile! I was proud of both of our efforts, and fellow family and friends as well. Missy Lind won the 10 mile race for all women. Aaron and Garth ran very nice ten mile races and the Puzeys looked amazing their respective races. I think I like running....a little.

We enjoyed a fantastic Halloween with Snake Eyes. Lucky for us, he did not run into Stormshadow while trick-or-treating or things may have turned ugly.

Weekend in Bend, OR

We spent last weekend in Bend, OR attending the wedding of Konnie Zacharias, our friend, former student and daughter of neighbors across the street Tim & Karen. The ceremony was beautiful, as well as the bride and the weather making it a truly great weekend. We met so many wonderful people and spent some quality time with Dawn & Pat Kerrigan. We had a fantastic time.

Last Sunday morning Sara, Ryk, and I packed up our stuff and left my mom's in Auburn, Wa at 3am to travel to Medical Lake, Wa to watch one of our favorite athletes compete... the amazing Missy Lind in the Wunderwoman Sprint Triathlon. She finished close to the top overall amongst hundreds of competitors. She is an inspiration to our whole family and we our very proud of the mighty lil' thing!

A night with the M's

Sara and I had the pleasure of attending the Mariners versus the Yankees on August 14th, unfortunately the M's lost the game late but they played well. God Bless Lee Olson for hooking us up with fantastic seats as we were 14 rows behind home plate. Sitting next to us was the newly signed first round draft pick of the M's, Nick Franklin. Nice kid. We enjoyed the up close view of the game and the magic of Safeco Field.

This summer has been action packed for our family as we have been to Seattle/Auburn three... going on four times, Vancouver, BC for a fantastic concert by Clutch, Greece, to a fantastic cabin/camping experience near Lake Roosevelt on the Spokane River (thanks Mercers) and more swim lessons than I care to count. Fun stuff.

Return from Greece

Sara and I came Back last Friday from an epic journey to Greece with a group of 22 others from our school and community. The Trip was truly amazing, and tiring as I still wait to return to regular sleeping hours with the ten hour time change.

The country possesses both natural and historic beauty and the people were fantastic as well as the food. Our group behaved as perfect ambassadors for our country as we received many compliments, especially regarding the behavior of our students.

We count our blessings that we had such a rich opportunity and made it home to our son. God is Good.

State Track & Field

Been way too long since I posted...and if anyone out there still looks at this from time to time here is the latest adventure. I recently returned from Eugene, OR where the State Track & Field meet was a great success for our kids. We had 14 athletes travel to one of the best sporting experiences I have been associated with. Our girls placed second in state with a number of outstanding performances. but the best part of State track trips are the people and the connections you build with your athletes and the coaches; truly one of the best experiences I have had as a a coach or an educator.

Lind Clan Invades Pullman

I know, I know....long time, no blog. I have done a poor job at best of keeping this show up to date since the new year. In that time we have had great times with friends and family. We have celebrated birthdays including Sara's dad, Gary who turned 68, hosted Brent, Robin and Moira for a weekend, attended a Disturbed concert in the Tri-Cities to celebrate Brent's birthday and seen our son Ryker transform into a growling, street-fighting vigilante named Panther/Armor King (the name changes from day to day so its hard to keep up).

Well this weekend is the focus of this post. Sara, Panther and I hopped in Gary and Alleen's car and sped off to Pullman, WA to watch an indoor track & field meet. Our nephew, Kersee, was competing for Eastern Washington University in the indoor heptathlon. We would also see former Hermiston athletes and psuedo-family members Michelle Coombs, Anne Barnett, and Mykael Bothum compete as well. Kasia Rademacher joined us both days to watch the meet as she is a current student at WSU, so it was a real treat and tribute to how truly blessed we have been as track coaches at Hermiston to have such amazing young people to work with. Also attending were Aaron, Missy and the kids and Brandt & Joanne.

During the outdoor season Kersee will compete in the decathalon, however the indoor season limits event availablity cutting it to seven events (heptathalon). The seven events include a 60meter sprint, long jump, high jump, shot put, 60meter hurdles, pole vault, and a 1,000 meter dash. Grueling? Yes, but Kersee looked superbly conditioned and it showed as he placed second over all defeating atheltes from WSU, Utah State, U of Idaho and Sacramento State. We were all very proud of his perfromance and excited to see what he will accomplish as the season continues.

Fantastic Christmas

It started early as we have had several days of school canceled due to snow and ice. Which would have been sweet, except Sara and have been dealing with Pipe/water issues. These were finally resolved as of this morning, thank God. We again count our blessings that we are apart of a great community in Hermiston, where people rally to assist those in need. Thanks to Jason Knutz!

Sara's Grandma Millie passed away yesterday, just months short of her 98th birthday. For those who never met her, you may be amazed to hear that this came as a shock. Millie was an amazing woman with strength of body and character like I pray to have at that age of my life. She was sharp to the very end and refused any assisted living or nursing homes as she cherished her independence and maintained it. I feel honored to have been in her amazing life as she experienced history like I can only read about. She always fought conformity and was a rebel who lived life the way she wanted to live it. I take great peace knowing she is with the Lord.

Turkey Bowl 2008

Are you ready for some football? The 19th annual Turkey Bowl held at Cascade Junior High in Auburn, WA was a success. And by success I mean that no one was injured! It is Friday morning and I am still so sore that I question if I am getting far too old for this crap. It is nice to know that most of my old friends still fear me and on several occasions were I should have been tackled, my friends made no attempt. Fine by me, I really didn't want to get hurt anyway. Crazy to think that My friends and I have been playing this game annually since 1989! Man we are getting old!

Wild Weekend!

So last weekend was a wild one. Hermiston Football hosted a playoff game versus Corvallis High on Friday and were victorious by the score of 42-21. I was stuck making and selling elephant ears during the contest as a fund raiser for the Track & Field Program. I still may wreak of yeast...Yummy!

Saturday I traveled by caravan to the city of Corvallis with the majority of the males of the Lind Clan to take in an OSU Beaver game versus the Cal Bears. The Linds are all Beaver fans over the years, making this enjoyable to see their genuine excitement. The kind of excitement I use to have for Raider football before they became more embarassing than pictures of your father dressed in women's clothing......not that I know how embarassing that would be....moving on. The Beavs were victorious, as their quest for a Pac-10 title and Rose Bowl bid (first since the 1960s I believe) stay alive. It was awesome to see my nephews (Nathan & Anders) and one neice (Hannah) enjoy college football with their dads & uncles. Go Beavs!

Sunday I spent the morning with Sara & Ryk at church where Ryk made a scene from the exorcist and projected vomit all over Sara and himself near the close of the service. Poor little guy caught a stomach flu. Despite the sick child and a sense that I was really screwing Sara over by leaving her with ryk in this state, I was off again to Eastern Washington University by the afternoon to attend a HHS Track Coaches meeting with my bro-in-laws and clinic with the EWU track staff. This was fun as Cheney is a great lil' town. The overnight stay was tough just because I missed my family. We hooked up with my nephew Kersee & former athlete and student Michelle Coombs; both of which are student/athletes at the university. Both are loving the school and the chance to compete in college in track.

Bottomline, I am blessed to have these opportunities and have a family that supports my wild pursuits. Sara is amazing and my masterpiece of God!

All Boy!

My boy may be the single greatest cause of joy in my life. He has an amazing imagination. He currently believes that he may be a Jedi Knight and attempts to use the force everyday. The occasional Jedi mind-trick is attempted on mom as well. But I am so blessed by god to have a young man with certain health challenges who does not see them as challenges and instead, seems proud of what makes him unique.

He is blessed with an amazing mom, who has the kid reading short words at the age of 4. Just another day in Mom's preschool/kindergarten class of one. Sara loves staying home with Ryk, as they work on a variety of skills and art projects. I am so proud of both and thank God daily for affording us the life we are given by his grace.

Fight Night

Ryan Ferguson invited Sara & I over for a little pay-per-view fun as the sweet science of pugilism offered up the Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jr. fight. It was great to See Ryan and Kaycee who are due to have a baby boy in March, and others they had invited. Sad but true, the company was more exciting than the fight as Calzaghe owned the bout with the exception of the first round. This was disappointing as Calzaghe wore sequins and show-boated the entire night making me want to vomit in my mouth.
